Special Video Episode: presentation on Second Life from PodCamp Toronto

DOWNLOAD THE SHOW (51 Mb Quicktime Movie file)

First a quick note about PodCamp Toronto which happened this weekend -- it was AMAZING! As one of the event organizers, I want to thank everyone who came out to the event. The community driven nature of PodCamp means that in a best case situation, everyone present contributes to the success of the event, and I can say honestly that this was one of those best case scenarios.

I wanted to include one of the sessions from PodCamp in the OMM feed. I was thrilled to do a presentation with Bryan Person, one of the orignal PodCamp organziers, about Second Life. I've talked a fair bit about SL on the podcast before, and while what's here isn't strictly music related I think it's good information. It's also an excuse for me to publish my first-ever video podcast episode, so we'll see how well that works out!

Thanks to the fine folks at Ryerson University, video from all of the sessions are availible for download on the PodCamp Toronto schedule page at:

Click on the title for each presentation to download the Quicktime file, most of them in the 50-70 meg size range.

Live streaming from PodCamp Toronto!

Thanks to our friends from Ryerson University and C'est What Brew/Vin Pub, it appears the vast majority of PodCamp Toronto happenings will be available in realtime via streaming media links.

Visit the schedule page for the Quicktime video links for each presentation room, and for the Shoutcast audio link for Saturday night's performance from C'est What featuring Uncle Seth, +nurse & Sean McGaughey:

Unfortunately these streams will not be monitored at all times so we can't promise they will always be up, but with any luck you'll be able to partake in a great deal of the PodCamp Toronto from the comfort of your broadband connection.

Please feel free to blog or otherwise pass this information along to anyone not lucky enough to be here in Toronto for what promises to be an amazing weekend!

Getting psyched for PodCamp Toronto

I must admit, I've been quite busy and hadn't really been thinking as much about PodCamp Toronto as I should given that I'm an organizer and it's just over a week away, but I got a boost in my excitement when we posted the schedule today.

Since PodCamp is an "unconference", each session leader actually posts their own time, so it was really fun to see the initial flood of 8 or 10 sessions get booked within minutes of releasing the schedule after a couple of SNFUs where an incorrect early version was released, deleted, debated, corrected and reposted. Good times!

I'm certain I will acknowledge them again, but to my follow organizers Leesa, Julien, Mitch & Brent, thanks for your support so far and ahead, apologies in advance for any stress I may cause you my friends! :-)

PodCamp Toronto Feb. 24-25 is FREE!

last.fm Personal Radio

I've talked about last.fm a couple of times, specifically in podcast episodes #4 and #10. They've just updated their personal profile pages, and one of the things I like is that they provide code for you to share your personal radio station (which is based on the music you play) via email or right in your web page, like this:

Play it, and you can hear stuff I've played, and it updates anytime I play something new that gets logged into my last.fm profile... pretty nifty!

Episode #24 - The Superbowl sucks

DOWNLOAD THE SHOW (8 Mb MP3 file)

My friend Bob Baker recently got a tonne of comments for saying something that I frankly thought was pretty innoxious and obvious, so I'm gonna try one up him. The Superbowl sucks. In fact, NFL style football sucks, and there is no particular good reason from a talent perspective that so many more people are watching their championship game than watched the Bufflo Bandits vs. Toronto Rock game last night. And if you don't even know what sport I just referred to at the end of the last sentence, you should DEFINITELY listen to this episode.
